The Smoothie That Helps Me Start My Day

Smoothies are an easy and portable meal to make when in a time crunch. It also ensures that I am getting a balanced meal with health benefits. Of course, it all depends on the ingredients used to ensure the smoothie is packed with vegetables, fruits, and seeds. 

 

I like making my own smoothies, so I plan ahead and add those ingredients to my shopping list.

 

Here is one of my favorite smoothies that helps me start my day.

Blueberry: This fruit is rich in vitamin K and vitamin C. Blueberries are also packed with polyphenols, which has been known to help boost bone growth.

Spinach: Is an extremely nutrient-rich vegetable. Spinach has high amounts of carotenoids, antioxidants, vitamin C, vitamin K, folic acid, iron, and calcium. This vegetable is also high in insoluble fiber, which can improve your digestive system. 

Almond Milk: This is an alternative option for those that are dairy sensitive or choose not to drink animal milk. It is low in sugar and high in vitamin E. 

Flaxseed: This is considered a powerful plant food. It is rich in omega-3 essential fatty acids, which can positively contribute to heart and brain health.

Banana: These are a great healthy source of potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, various antioxidants, and phytonutrients. Bananas are also rich in fiber, which aids gut function and promotes healthy blood sugar levels.

Peanut Butter: The legumes are are rich in protein, fat, and various healthy nutrients. Peanuts have been linked to reducing the risk of heart disease. Please note for those that may have peanut allergies. 

 

Blueberry, Banana, and Spinach Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup spinach
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 tsp flaxseed
  • 1 scoop protein powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 tbs peanut butter

Combine all the ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Add more milk if a thinner consistency is desired. This makes 1 serving. Enjoy!
