How do you start your day?
My morning routine use to consist of turning off my alarm, grabbing my phone to catch up on email, news, and social media. There was this constant feeling that I needed to catch up on everything, which increased my stress levels before I got out of bed.
I also realized that this morning routine was not good for my mental health and decided to change it up.
Here are the five things I do get my day started stress-free.
I mentally think of three things I am grateful for.
This practice instantly boosts my self-esteem and compassion for others.
I set my intentions or say my list of affirmations.
This helps me be intentional with my day and begins my day with positive self-talk.
I drink a glass of water.
It is a quick way to rehydrate my body since I do not drink water throughout the night. Drinking water first thing in the morning also helps wake up my body.
I make my bed.
My bedroom is my sanctuary. Making my bed first thing in the morning instantly makes my room feel organized and I quickly accomplish something at the start of the day.
I splash water on my face and brush my teeth.
This also helps wake up my body and I feel good starting my day with some good hygiene.
