World Kindness Day 2020

Nov

Earlier this month was election day in the U.S. The anticipation of the day, as well as post-election day, has caused a lot of anxiety for our country.

And whoever you voted for, everyone was feeling the tension, which is why I think World Kindness Day is perfect for this month.

Election season can cause a lot of angst. While many people were thrilled with the results, others are distraught.

What this election season has reminded me of is the need for “compassion and kindness”.

Compassion and kindness can be hard when you are speaking to someone who has different beliefs from you.

To help shift from anxiety and angst, doing random acts of kindness can help increase positivity and has shown to boost happiness. There was a study conducted with 683 participants to see if performing different types of kindness activities affect happiness. Results indicated that performing kindness activities for seven days increases happiness, not only for you but also for those on the receiving end.

What are some acts of kindness you can start today?

  • Help someone make dinner
  • Pick up groceries for an elderly person
  • Read a book to a loved one
  • Let someone know why you are grateful for them
  • Pay for someone’s meal

“When you are kind to others, it not only changes you, it changes the world.” – Harold Kushner

With gratitude,

Tara
